Courage, Cells & Cogs
When cells stop following the rules, we call it cancer. Courage, Cells & Cogs invites children into Dr. Tink’s steampunk world to learn what cells do, what happens when they misbehave, and what doctors do to help. The Healing Crew shows how big feelings belong in recovery. For ages 4–8. Ideal for families, classrooms, and pediatric care teams.
Naida Hurst, ODS-C
I am a Certified Oncology Data Specialist, ODS-C, with sixteen years of experience and the creator of Steampunk Furries. I work with real cancer data every day, so I know how much children need clear words, steady honesty, and comfort they can hold.
I created Dr. Tink and the Healing Crew to help families talk about cancer. Courage, Cells & Cogs gives kids simple language for what cells do, why cancer happens, and what doctors do to help. The story also makes room for sadness, fear, hope, and courage, so families can name what they feel together.
On my site, you will find guiding questions and printable activities, plus a short animated origin story about how Steampunk Furries came to be.
I live in McAllen, Texas with my husband and two very curious cats, Mango and Lexi. I have been crafting stories since I was a little girl.
May Courage, Cells & Cogs bring your family comfort and courage today.
